Seachem Purigen – Premium Organic Filter Resin for Aquariums

Seachem Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent unlike any other filtration product on the market. Rather than a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, it’s a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds competing products by over 500%. It’s suitable for both marine and freshwater use.

Purigen controls ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate by removing the nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds, while having minimal impact on trace elements. It significantly raises redox and polishes water to unparalleled clarity, darkening progressively as it exhausts so you always know when it’s time to regenerate. Want to round out your biological filtration? Pair it with Seachem Matrix for efficient ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate removal in the same filter.

Features & Benefits

  • Highest organic removal capacity of any filtration resin on the market
  • Controls ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate by removing nitrogenous waste before it breaks down
  • Minimal impact on trace elements
  • Significantly raises redox and polishes water to unparalleled clarity
  • Darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily regenerated for reuse
  • Suitable for both marine and freshwater aquariums

How to Use

Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh filter bag (180 micron or less), such as Seachem’s The Bag, and position it to maximise water flow through the media. It can be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high-flow area of a trickle filter. Each 250mL treats up to 1,000L for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by a pronounced discolouration of the beads to dark brown or black.

Regeneration: Soak in a 1:1 bleach and water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container, in a well-ventilated area away from children. Use regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach (non-scented, no dyes, not splash-less). Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours in a solution of 4 tablespoons of Prime, or an equivalent dechlorinator, per cup of water. Rinse well, then soak for 4 hours in a solution of 2 tablespoons of Seachem Neutral Regulator per cup of water for freshwater use. Original colour and full activity should now be restored. Some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen and make regeneration difficult, and it should not be reused if any odour of bleach or chlorine remains. If in doubt, soak the beads in a small amount of water and test for residual chlorine.
