Blue Planet Fluke & Tapeworm Tablets – Aquarium Fish Parasite Treatment

Blue Planet Fluke & Tapeworm Tablets are a purpose-built in-water treatment for flukes and tapeworms in ornamental fish, suitable for both freshwater and marine aquariums. The active ingredient, praziquantel, has long been recognised as an effective treatment for these parasites, but until tablets like these were developed it was only available in dosages formulated for dogs, which were costly and polluting when adapted for aquarium use.

Each tablet is formulated with inert excipients to avoid contaminating the aquarium, and dissolves quickly once added to the water, releasing the majority of its active ingredient within around 10 minutes.

What They Treat

Flukes (monogenetic trematodes) are common external parasites affecting the gills, skin and fins of freshwater and marine fish, frequently seen in Livebearers, Goldfish, Discus and Angelfish. Infested fish may show rapid gill movement, respiratory distress, red spots on the skin or fins, scraping against objects in the tank, and in chronic cases emaciation and colour changes. Flukes are occasionally visible to the naked eye as tiny pale worms.

Tapeworms (cestodes) are most often found in newly imported or wild-caught fish, living in the intestine and attaching to the intestinal wall. Signs of infestation include a swollen abdomen and general poor condition.

Features & Benefits

  • Treats both flukes and tapeworms in one product.
  • Formulated specifically for in-water use in fresh and saltwater aquariums.
  • Inert tablet excipients help avoid unwanted aquarium pollution.
  • Rapid dissolving tablets release around 95% of active praziquantel within 10 minutes.
  • 100 tablets per pack for a full treatment course with tablets to spare.

How to Use

  • Dose at 1 tablet per 20 litres of aquarium water. Pre-dissolve each tablet in a disposable cup before adding it to the tank.
  • After 48 hours, change 25% of the aquarium water and clean the filter.
  • Repeat the treatment after 7 days to prevent reinfestation. Do not overdose.
  • Remove activated carbon from your filter and reduce flow to sub-gravel filtration for the duration of treatment.
  • Use with caution in aquariums housing snails or Corydoras catfish; if adverse effects occur, stop treatment and change 50% of the water.
  • A small cellulose residue may remain after the tablets dissolve, this is harmless to fish.
  • If symptoms don’t improve, consult your vet or aquarium dealer.
