Aqua One pH Test Kit

pH is one of the most important water parameters to monitor in any aquarium or pond. The Aqua One pH Test Kit makes it easy to check and maintain the right pH range to keep your fish healthy and thriving.

What Is pH?

pH is how we measure how acidic or alkaline water is. It’s scored on a scale from 0–14:

  • pH 7 is neutral
  • Below 7 = acidic
  • Above 7 = alkaline

Our tap water is generally neutral at a pH of around 7. Different fish species have different preferred pH levels:

  • Tropical fish: Often prefer slightly acidic water (around 6.5)
  • Koi and goldfish: Prefer neutral to slightly alkaline water (7.0–8.0)

Always know the preferred pH of the species you are keeping in order to know what you are testing for!

The Importance of Testing pH

pH levels can shift over time due to rain, water changes, decaying leaf matter, etc. Regular testing helps you spot changes early and correct them before they stress or harm your fish. Living in water with a pH beyond a fishes natural range can ultimately lead to stress, illness and death.

We recommend testing pH:

  • When setting up a new aquarium or pond
  • Before adding new fish or plants
  • If fish seem unwell, stressed, or behave oddly
  • After water changes or heavy rain
  • As part of your regular weekly/monthly maintenance routine

Tip: If your pH is outside the ideal range, adjust it slowly over a few days using a pH Up or pH Down product. Sudden changes can harm your fish.
