Keeping on top of your aquarium’s KH (carbonate hardness) is one of the most important and most overlooked aspects of water quality management. KH acts as a buffer for your aquarium’s pH, preventing the sudden swings that stress fish, suppress immune systems and increase the risk of disease. The API KH Carbonate Hardness Test Kit makes it fast, easy and accurate to monitor KH levels in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Why Does KH Matter?
Water with low KH is highly susceptible to rapid pH shifts even overnight. These swings are invisible to the naked eye but extremely stressful to fish and can quickly lead to fish loss. In marine and reef aquariums, stable KH is also essential for healthy coral growth. Testing weekly is the easiest way to catch problems before they become serious.

How to Use
- Fill the capped test tube with 5ml of aquarium water.
- Hold the test solution bottle vertically and add drops as directed in the instructional booklet.
- Cap and shake the test tube, then compare the result to the colour chart provided.
- Adjust KH levels as required, the booklet includes guidance on how to raise or lower KH if results fall outside the ideal range.
For best results, test weekly to accurately monitor KH conditions and catch any changes early.
⚠️ Important: Never test aquarium water immediately after adding treatments or conditioners, wait at least 24 hours for accurate results. Always hold the test solution bottle vertically when adding drops to ensure consistent drop size and accurate readings.
